Wakefield Autism Leisure Club - a Wakefield based sports club for children and  young adults with learning disabilities.

            Club coordinator:-TERRY SMITH (01924 826642)

             Club chair:-Claire Stephenson (01924 820233)

W.A.L.C was set up in 1998  under the guidance of Federation of Disabilitys Sports Organisation and the National Autistic Society . Later that year it was transfered offically to club status and the Wakefield Autism Leisure Club was born.

. Over the years it has grown and we have had to expand our age range to include a junior section, and the club has naturally progressed to include young people with other learning disabilities.

We participate in various sporting activities both locally and regionally, these include football, swimming, ten-pin bowling, indoor bowls and snooker.

W.A.L.C. has forged ties with the Special Olympics GB organisation which allows our athletes to participate in sporting activities on a regional, national and world basis.

W.A.L.C. is run by a part time paid club coordinator and a small army of volunteers and committee members.  As the club has registered charity status we are required to have a written constitution and at least three trustees.

All staff are subject to C.R.B. checks.

funding for the club relies solely on grants and donations from public and private organisations. Members pay a nominal fee each session and parents, Carers and volunteers actively raise money through raffles, street collections e.t.c.

New members are always welcome and any enquiries should be made to the club coordinator or the club chair.
